Then they also ask question like you prelims and mains examination like for example which where optional subject but nowadays optional subject is no more so in the general studies various areas are there, question from current events also ask so any national and international current issue which is high at that time they ask question from that area also.

So if you are doing whether a government job or a private job so the question will be asked from your job profile law and regulation any current police from the government are there then that kind of things.

Some people spend many hours but do not get successful. But there are some people with continuing their job and some people who also give full time and crack the exam. So from this reviews hours is not going to matter or calculate.

First of all, Start initially reading day to day and get idea of certain things which subject are from your background it doesn’t take a lot of time but which subject are new and not from your filed will take a lot of time so that will vary person to person. Give daily one hour to current events.

Then which time is left you can divide in two parts, one type you can do like read only one subject at one time like if you are reading polity so read polity only, if you are doing mathematics do mathematics only.

Second type will be like you can read different subject in the gap of one or two hour like if you take one hour to one subject next one hour to next subject.

So if you join early in 1st year there is going to be smooth journey towards selection.

If you are preparing from 1st year you get more time spent after the graduation you have many responsibilities in some case you get financial responsibilities.

People who have been selected more from northern state, the reason of ample selection is also that they start there preparation early after 12th. This is also a very good factor. You can start your preparation from very first after 12th then u will get better prospect for selection.

Ans:- To become an IAS officer you just need to crack UPSC exam it is not necessary which graduation you are pursuing. You can pursue any graduation but requirement is that you should be graduate from government recognized university from then only you can appear in civil service exam.

Second thing is when you are pursuing graduation you can go in the field of your choice as far as UPSC many people is selected but there are people from science commerce art medical engineering various background people are there so there is nothing like that you can choose any background but if you choose specifically for IAS exam then generally art is better the work load is less secondly the subject of art like history, economic, geography they are more related to syllabus of UPSC it will give you orientation towards UPSC exam. But this will not a binding thing student can select as per their interest also.

Important thing is that everything which matter in civil service is seniority. If you enter early in civil services you have early possibilities to get faster promotion because whose who enter the age of 20&22 they get possibility something like secretary, chief secretary etc top post are only possible them.

If you see any IAS, IPS officer of any state who as posted such a high level. They must credit the civil service exam at the age of 20&22.So it is better if you plan to go in the civil service right after graduation as soon as possible.

Many people have choose optional subject in wrong manner which has been fatal in there career and they have fail the civil service examination because they choose optional subject which are not suitable for them. As per choosing optional first you should not choose optional subject.

Be in the UPSC environment for few month prepare general studies optional subject only be in the mains. One to three month if u get orientation towards the civil service examination pattern u will get oriented towards history, geography, science, polity, current events, economic all the subject then you will understand more the UPSC approach after two three month preparation it is vice time to you to select optional subject.

Secondly optional subject selection is first a fall to your own interest because the subject you going to study for lot time. So you have to see what is matter of your own interest, the interest is matter the most, if you can shortlist three four good optional subject then you can also see the selected some ratio in past few year so that be the good guide to you.

You can also choose the optional subject on the basis of your own background. Beside if you are staying in the particular region also see the availability of coaching guidance, book material etc. For a particular optional subject if it is not going to available then it is going to be tough journey for you. So all these factor is guiding selection of optional subject.

No optional subject is good or bad it is about your suitability and you have to final best option for you so that will be very much rewarding.

So do not worry about past concentrated on future and present only. There are many candidates who have got few marks in their graduation they are very successful officer presently.

So everything matter in UPSC is how much you are determine to exam, your commitment level and your hard work and the preparation that kind of thing only matter in the civil services exams. There are people some are gold medalist, IITIANS and IIM people who have failed this exam. At the same time many people who are from the basic background have pass.

Don’t worry about that don’t take it asset. So start from right scratch it will not matter definitely make your good career all the best for that.

13. Is there possibility of change of paper style approach by UPSC exam?

Ans:- UPSC is the constitutional body which is establish under article 315 of the constitution. So it’s a free body and it can take its own course. As far as civil service preparation is consent UPSC is always trying to improve an evaluate its approach. So that best bureaucracy can be found and best people can be given opportunity to serve the nation.

So in that context UPSC is involving its own exam pattern over year but considering the present senior in the very short term it is list likely that UPSC can going to change its exam pattern and approach so in that condition you don’t need to worry and you can focus upon on the present preparation pattern and you can always prepare for that and if you are preparing to the required level you can always either selection.

More important thing is that your preparation very much insightful, you are conceptually clear, you have more analytically mind set over the subject so that be more appropriate things. As far as syllabus is consent so minor changes may take place any time but major changes are less likely.

Beside when where some changes take place in UPSC exam pattern then you must be finding that exam pattern changing are not sudden in the 1st year of examination they set very easy paper. So it gives opportunity to the student to adopt itself.

So intensive preparation is more important as far as UPSC is consent than the extensive preparation. Everybody is must be read newspaper on the daily basis of but when you are reading newspaper you should also see the background.

For example, some event with take place presently so that event what we can say is it is one hour current affair you must be preparing that but is there some background like in present year the tax reform is introduced like GST.
So now GST is introduced so GST is current event because it is belonging to last one year preparation but along with that there are some background issue that when GST was first discus there is history which is panic to the year when Atal Bihari Vajpayee first introduced. So in that matter what where is the current development in that context you should also knowing the background.

For example, article 370 and its controversy may be in the present time but when you writing answer for the civil service or ticking the question in the preliminary exam so in that context you should be knowing that what is the background of Kashmir issue and how everything took place and how chronicle to the present senior. Some in the case you can say that the issue of North Korea, South Korea or the issue of Israel, Palestine so certain thing may be there which you are say current.
But along with current you should know its background that is historic background its base in the polity constitution and another relevant social dimension historic dimensional. So current affair preparation may be sufficient one year but when you are preparing you should not devote not less than one hour every day for the current events that preparation should also focus on reading some good newspaper.

For example, the Hindu after reading some good newspaper you should also focus or you can say analyzing storming material some good journal etc. Factual memorizing the thing is not real study of current affair so from that prospect you are doing than one year preparation of current affair is more than sufficient. Ans:- Small things really matter a lot in this civil service examination. Because competition is not small it is big so small mistake can cost you very big thing. So small habit are many for example first and the for most habit is being consistence if you are preparing on and off mode it will not help you to clear the civil service examination but if you are preparing consistence and regularly then definitely the regularity and consistence is the most important virtue of every civil service aspirant. Second positive habit is about being positive yourself that first thing is that if you are not positive about your self you will not clear the exams as simple as that. If you are positive than there is some possibilities there is very high level of competition and there is like many people there are negative who are saying you cannot do it come up give it up and do some thing else in all this kind of things you should be talking every morning when ever you wake up say that I will do it and I can do it I saw them I will able to do it god will help me and there are pretty good aspect that clear it this time. If you not clear it many other time you going to clear this time. This is also very small habit but it is definitely help you a lot. Then another small habit you can say balance in the preparation you should be preparing with the balance you should not be running after something and not preparing other things for example you are preparing you some thing giving justify time to current affair reading newspapers and then traditional then csat then your optional subject everything you should be giving balance to weighted each and every thing Balancing preparation you can say online preparation, offline preparation so that balance preparation is very good habit. Next important thing would have is to read hindu which is you should do in the religious manner and as you are civil service aspirant you are born to read hindu so you should be reading it. But 99% of people don’t thing that they really like to read hindu and they use to go with the short cuts and at the end they pay very high cost of that. So this are some of the good habit then next good habit is to save each and every minute so when ever you are travelling. When you have some thing to read either using your mobile or as a book as a notes any thing. Next good habit you can say properly underlining your material. Whatever you are reading you sin you should habit of highlighting or underling what ever the necessary part. So this are the small small habits which is bring big big change to you and bring great success to you.

74. How do I avoid negative marking in the UPSC prelims?

Ans:- There is no real way to avoid negative marking in UPSC exam accept not attending the question that you don’t know. So 1/3 mark is negative for each question you attempt and it is wrong if you know the answer then you attempt if you don’t know then don’t just try to make a fun of it. Give those question up this if you don’t know. Other wise your negative marking will reduce your entire merit. It will spoil your paper it will spoil your exam. It will remove the chance of selection. So be very precise be very clear what to do what to not do. Negative marking you cannot completely avoid in some question you bound to get it but obviously nobody can say that 100% accuracy many questions are tricky in that case if you know the answer you write it down it is very simple if you don’t know any thing about it give it up very simple. The question comes that if there is some doubt in that case what you should do. In those kind of case some thing that you write those questions some where and not very clear which option is write so in that kind of things confusion between two option see for example a and c or b and d. so that kind of case you can go for choose anything randomly. Probability say that if you choose any one of them then out of two question one of them is write and one will be wrong. One write question you will get one marks and for wrong question you will lose 1/3 so still you are gaining meaning 2/3 this is the logic of probability. So that is how you can avoid negative marking and you can get something better and this few marks some thing better and this few marks will bring to head of thousand of candidates.

Or you can go through good some reference book like spectrum and you can say arihant so go for all this things. In UPSC there is no big short cut provided available or you can go through a big channel and you can see video so that also save your time and if you even still find some other way than go to past 5 6 year question paper and analyse the trends that will also help you you can say making your preparation more a line to requirement and in less time you can prepare.

Here the competition will be be on two side there you can say technical paper and non technical things like general studies Gujarat English etc. most of the people have not done that preparation since year. You can start preparation like learn history and geography from NCRET, GCRET Books they are best sources to start it they are basics books. Besides you can go for reading number of reference books including books of Bipin Chandra and many other good author you can always refer through. You can also refer to art and culture from various source various class material etc and as far as geography as consent map read has to be strong. Go for the oxford map, Oxford student atlas.Besides you can solve past year question paper so your preparation can go very nicely. The best books for UPSC Civil Services Modern Indian History, Environmental Studies, Indian Polity, Indian and World Geography, Oxford Student Atlas, Indian Economy this books you can read as a general studies and for CSAT you can read Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning, And English is Easy. So this will you help you a lot for the reading. Everybody is must be read newspaper on the daily basis of but when you are reading newspaper you should also see the background. For example, some event with take place presently so that event what we can say is it is one hour current affair you must be preparing that but is there some background like in present year the tax reform is introduced likeso now GST is introduced so GST is current event because it is belonging to last one year preparation but along with that there are some background issue that when GST was first discus there is history which is panic to the year when Atal Bihari Vajpayee first introduced.

83.How do I start my preparations for prelims of IAS having zero basic knowledge?

Ans:- Start initially reading day to day and get idea of certain things which subject are from your background it doesn’t take a lot of time but which subject are new and not from your filed will take a lot of time so that will vary person to person. Give daily one hour to current events. Then which time is left you can divide in two parts, one type you can do like read only one subject at one time like if you are reading polity so read polity only, if you are doing mathematics do mathematics only.Second type will be like you can read different subject in the gap of one or two hour like if you take one hour to one subject next one hour to next subject.Whatever time table u make is connected through your mental ability because everyone has different capacity and different choice. But when you are studying don’t read too much at a time.Generally, it a is law of psychology one cannot remember everything more than 45min at a time, take 5-10 min breaks, u can also have nap in afternoon so the reception level of your mind is highest so read only that you can understand and memorise. For example, some event with take place presently so that event what we can say is it is one hour current affair you must be preparing that but is there some background like in present year the tax reform is introduced like.So now GST is introduced so GST is current event because it is belonging to last one year preparation but along with that there are some background issue that when GST was first discus there is history which is panic to the year when Atal Bihari Vajpayee first introduced.
